Immersive exhibit featuring van Gogh, Monet debuts at CT Convention Center

Andrew Larson | Hartford Business Journal The Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet exhibit is at the Connecticut Convention Center through June 29.

Two iconic artists who struggled to gain recognition during their lives are featured in an exhibit at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford through the end of June.

The traveling exhibit, Beyond Van Gogh, first appeared at the convention center in 2022. This year, the show added a new element: Beyond Monet.

The combined Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet show is an immersive, walkthrough experience with dazzling animations of their works interspersed with details about the personal and professional lives of painters Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh.

The two artists are known for their fascination with light and expressive brushwork.

Van Gogh used bold colors to express emotion and psychological depth, while Monet employed softer, more realistic tones to capture landscapes.

Van Gogh and Monet both experienced financial hardship and did not receive widespread acclaim until after their deaths.

Van Gogh struggled to sell his paintings and relied on his brother for financial support. Monet, however, achieved commercial success by the end of his career.

The exhibit features two of the artists’ most famous paintings – van Gogh’s “The Starry Night,” which depicts a swirling night sky with a village in the distance – and Monet’s “Water Lillies,” which depicts a flower garden outside his home in Giverny, France.

The traveling show is produced by Paquin Entertainment Group, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The group has produced multiple shows at the Connecticut Convention Center, helping the venue’s attendance rebound after the pandemic.

The Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet exhibit takes about 90 minutes to walk through.

It runs from May 24 to June 29 and tickets are available here.

The Connecticut Convention Center is located at 100 Columbus Blvd. Tickets are timed and dated, and advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
